When you contact a home health care provider….

  • The first person that you first speak with is in sales or marketing. They will not be the person providing your care.
  • The second person you may see or speak with is the registered nurse who will not be providing the care but some limited oversight.
  • The third person you speak with or see could be your potential caregiver.
  • This is the person you will need to know. You need to ask questions…questions about experience, bedside manners, language barriers and more.

Once you reach the second step, remember…

There is no contract! Many companies are designing their sales assessments to sound like you are obligated to get services for an extended period of time. Pursuant to State Legislative Regulations, you can cancel home healthcare services at any time.

Before you commit to home healthcare, ensure that the home healthcare provider is insured

Insured and Experienced

Next, inquire about the administrator or owner of the group. If the nurse is the administrator or the director, ask what is the staff’s background? Are they experienced in healthcare? It is important that the provider have a background in Social Services, Nursing or other healthcare related areas.
